Family Reunion

This weekend, we took a family trip to visit my husband’s parents and his extended family. Cousins from Wisconsin and Seattle also flew in with their families, to join in the festivities, and make it a family reunion. We missed seeing a couple of family members, but for the most part, everyone was there. Throughout our trip, we took trips out to the local winery and brewery, but the highlight was getting a chance to see our nephew’s first baby, Keegan. He is simply perfect in every way.

Here is a picture of most of us out on the Family Farm in Augusta, MO.

Bob & Ellen (far right), my mother and father in law, run and manage the orchards from their century+ old farm in Augusta, MO. If ever you’re in the area, be sure to call to see what’s in season. They have large orchards filled with various apples, peaches and berries throughout the year, and of course pumpkin season is always fun on the farm. Throughout the year, Ellen makes and sells a wide variety of preserves, and her apple butter is hands down the best I’ve ever had! You can contact them through their website to place orders to ship direct.

Augusta also has several wineries, shops, and bed & breakfast locations. My favorite stop in town is Kate’s Coffee. The owners are so nice and accommodating to guests, and they have a large variety of fresh baked quiche’s and sandwich offerings daily. Their coffee is fantastic, but just a bit more special since they serve it in a french press. After you’re done there, check out the antique and home decor shop up the street. Just beautiful. You can also peek in and see the studio and work of Sam Stang, an incredible glassware artist, who features handblown work in galleries across the country.

New Young Living Thieves Product Guide

Thieves Premium Starter Kit | 1841814 DoseofJoy.com

I love thieves products! Essential oil, household cleaner, toothpaste, mouthwash and more.

A couple months ago, I even cleared out all of my glass, granite, all purpose, bathroom, and other harsh home chemical cleaners. I was able to replace them all with a single bottle of Thieves Household cleaner. I’m blown away at how much better this product is compared to everything else I was using. The best part, it only takes a single capful to 2-3 cups of water in a spray bottle to get the results I need.

Check out the booklet below on the Thieves product line, and feel free to message me for details on more.

DIY Hand Sanitizer

I hope your Valentine’s Day is off to a great start, like ours. We opted to celebrate out yesterday, and sit this one in to enjoy a family day in the comforts of home.

Winter is still in full swing around this neck of the windy suburbs.  So when we are out, I always like to have a little extra protection on hand. If you are anything like me, you’ve probably noticed that the costs for all these little things are really adding up these days.  So I’ve tried to make an effort to help out by making my own household products, wherever I can.  In addition, this is just one more area where I can limit what chemicals I’m exposing my family to.
Hand Sanitizer | www.DoseofJoy.com
After searching through, and trying a number of DIY hand sanitizer recipes on Pinterest, I finally came up with my own blend, that really seems to fit the consistency, and absorbency, I was looking for.  I use it before and after touching grocery carts, doors or other questionable surfaces. There are two options, depending on if you like a gel consistency or more fast absorbing, liquid.  Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:
8oz Aloe Vera Gel (or Aloe Juice.  Either can be found at your local natural foods store)
1tsp Witch Hazel
10 drops Thieves Essential Oil
5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Four-2oz travel bottles with snap tops, or Two-4oz pump bottles.

Directions:
Mix Witch Hazel and essential Oils in bowl, until suspended. Add Aloe Gel, and blend well. Pour in to four-2oz travel containers or two-4oz pump bottles.

I like to keep one at my sink (4oz), one in my purse (2oz), and in the boys’ travel pack (2oz).

Choose Your Mood: Diffusing Oils

Bring the sunlight inside, clean the air, or create a relaxing spa-like atmosphere before bedtime.  Young Living’s diffusers provide a method to simply and effectively disperse essential oils in to the air, and eliminate the need for many chemical filled household products.

EverydayDiffusing with Young Living Essential Oils | www.DoseOfJoy.com

With several models to choose from, our most popular model, the Home Diffuser, it is available alone or comes free with our Premium Starter Kit (you can upgrade to the Bamboo diffuser for a small fee).  With its rose-inspired design, ultrasonic technology breaks any mixture of essential oils and water into millions of microparticles, disperses them into the air, and activates the powerful plant constituents found in Young Living essential oils. Custom designed with ambient light control, and alternating 30-second on/off and continuous run settings, Young Living’s Home Diffuser can transform any space into a spa-like atmosphere.

Today I’m bringing the sunshine in with Lemon and Peppermint.  The combination is great for brightening the mood and focusing my mind on work.

The Bamboo Diffuser pictured above, utilizes ultrasonic technology to break up the mixture of essential oils and water into extremely fine micro-particles and disperses the ingredients in essential oils into the air. It provides an excellent method of calming and moisturizing to build a healthy, natural, and pure living environment.  It also features an LED light, and timer settings for 1 or 4 hours of continuous diffusion.  The diffused molecules cover up to 30 square meters with this model.  Perfect for our transitional family spaces.

Purchased alone, many of our diffusers include single oils.  The real bargain is part of the Premium Starter Kit, where you’ll receive 11 oils and several samples, with access to wholesale purchasing.

Feel free to contact me for details.  If you already own your diffuser and kit, enjoy some of these great oily combinations.
